Overview

KIO Networks offers a broad portfolio of mission critical infrastructures and services with its different business units including KIO Data Centers Services. Its operational standards guarantee the highest levels of availability and operational excellence. The organization has more than 30 data centers with high density and availability, the most modern and robust data center infrastructure of the region, distributed in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Spain.

KIO Networks began their certification journey with Uptime Institute by achieving two Tier III Certification of Design Documents in Panama and Constructed Facility in Mexico City, as well as four Tier IV Certification of Design Documents in Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Spain, and Mexico. The KIO Networks Data Center in Murcia Spain is certified as Tier IV Constructed Facility by Uptime Institute. The organization also recently received a TIER-Ready Certification for the Data Center Container KIO ATOM offering.

With this experience in mind, the organization had a clear understanding of the planning, timing and the processes involved in the assessment. The new TIER-Ready review award from Uptime Institute provides an opportunity for KIO Networks to obtain the award for the modular ATOM Data Centers. This was done in order to allow the same level of reliability and resiliency as its core data centers, while simplifying and speeding the Tier Certification process.

Opportunity

The innovative KIO Networks ATOM Mobile Data Centers are the first modular data center applications deployed in Mexico. The KIO ATOM Data Centers can be deployed with great agility and can serve different requirements for customers. They can be used as a temporary or permanent data centers or for disaster recovery plan (DRP) and business recovery plan (BCP) purposes. ATOMS are also suitable for organizations that require a data center but may be short on space. The modular data centers are very versatile and may be placed either in the interior or exterior of a building, making them a flexible, scalable and agile Data Center solution. The ATOM Data Center is also bullet proof and can withstand extreme weather conditions.

The ATOM Mobile Data Centers from KIO Networks are currently located in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puebla, Merida, San Luis Potosi, Veracruz, Xalapa, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Cuernavaca, and Villahermosa. There are plans for expansion with different Edge data center locations in Mexico with the ATOM infrastructure. These are important installations for customers needing data processing in remote locations.

The ATOM Data Centers are geared to:
  • Telecom Industry
  • Healthcare
  • Government
  • Industrial IoT
  • Internet Exchange Point (IXP)

“KIO Networks believes the edge market will explode in the next 3-5 years to better serve different IT and connectivity requirements for the billions of smart devices that will continue to be connected to the Internet as well as other data demands. We’re confident that this new offering along with the high availability and high reliability, Uptime Institute TIER-Ready award is the best option to carry out the massive Edge undertaking for the Latin American market.”

Solution

The ATOM Data Centers are designed for fast deployment with an integrated all-in-one solution. The Data Centers can be relocated where the data demand is needed, solving space constraints and offering a variety of options with difference sizes and capabilities. KIO offers colocation services and went through the TIER-Ready review, in order to provide further confidence to its customers and prospects, proving that the ATOM Data Center Solution meets availability requirements as well as internal compliance needs.

KIO Networks found that the TIER-Ready award for container/modular data centers was as demanding as any certification they had previously gone through. The organization was pleased that their modular data centers can be certified by the flexible Uptime Institute Tier Topology standards. Since TIER-Ready is a design review, requirements establish that modular data centers must be set in place on a site location and if the destination changes, must be reviewed again. The benefits of the TIER-Ready award and process is that it proves a lower project risk by pre-validating designs for Tier compliance at the manufacturer level. Achieving a TIER-Ready award also reduces the end-user’s Tier Certification time by 65% due to the design being pre-validated by the manufacturer.
